Reyka Gama is a profiler who walks a fine line between her mental fragility and her brilliant intuition. In this South African crime thriller on M-Net, Kim Engelbrecht portrays Reyka with stunning authenticity, as she confronts the ghosts of her past and the dangers of her present. Abducted by a notorious serial killer, Angus Speelman, as a child, Reyka still bears the scars of his twisted legacy.

In the second season, she faces a new challenge at Lover’s Lane, a scenic spot where a cunning killer murders young couples and steals their shoes. The killer seems to know Reyka personally, leaving behind clues and messages that link him to Speelman’s crimes. As Reyka unravels the sinister web that ensnares her, she also has to deal with her fractured family and the shadow of a predator she can never escape.

The show takes viewers on a tour of Durban, revealing its hidden and often dark side. The weather plays a role in setting the tone and mood of the story, reflecting the characters’ inner turmoil.

Reyka S2 builds on the gripping first season and dives deeper into the complex and twisted relationship between Reyka and Speelman, creating a nail-biting narrative that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. The chemistry between Engelbrecht and Iain Glen, who plays Speelman, is electric, drawing audiences into a captivating dance of cat and mouse. The show also explores the psychological effects of trauma and abuse, as Reyka struggles to cope with her own demons and the impact of her work on her personal life.

New cast members add weight and depth to the show. Samkelo Ndlovu (iNkaba, Adulting) plays Detective Ayanda Jali, a tough and courageous detective with strong moral values and integrity. She becomes Reyka’s friend and confidant and helps her navigate her cases and personal struggles.

Pallance Dladla (Isibaya, Dam) stars as Zee, Ayanda’s boyfriend. Zee grew up in a children’s shelter and is now a social justice vlogger and internet personality. He struggles with issues of boundaries and self-esteem – caught between his feelings for Ayanda and his own insecurities.

Other new faces include legendary thespian Sello Maake Ncube (The Herd, The Queen), comic and actor Joey Rasdien (Bunny Chow), Zane Meas (Ludik), Tamara Skye, Kira Wilkinson (Black Beauty), Wayne van Rooyen (Fiela se Kind), Deon Lotz (Skoonheid), Trudy van Rooy (Skemerdans), and Nicky Rebelo (Good Life).

But Reyka is more than just a thrilling crime drama; it is also a bold exploration of the social and political issues of post-apartheid South Africa. The series does not shy away from addressing themes of race, justice, and the lasting wounds of history, creating a rich and layered story that stays with viewers long after the credits roll. The show also features a diverse and talented cast of supporting characters, each with their own backstory and motivation, who add depth and realism to the story.

For fans of crime dramas, psychological thrillers, and social commentary, Reyka S2 is a must-watch show that takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and surprises. Prepare yourself for a journey into the dark corners of the human mind that will make you question your own morality and motives.
