Me: "The wind you guys, is this necessary?"
If you don't know where that comes from then you and I can't be friends.
"Between the six of you, you've had nine spin-offs, two of you are billionaires, you've had headline-making relationships leading to three marriages and three-and-a-half divorces. Over a dozen disappeared pets, ten grandchildren and nearly 800 million google search results," says Andy Cohen in part 1 of the Keeping Up with the Kardashians Final Curtain special.
Looking back at the seasons, I am filled with nostalgia as it reminds me of where I was in each moment and what was going on in my own life. But since this isn't about me, I am mostly reminded of how far this family has come.
Today, there isn't a single magazine cover this family hasn't graced or major brand they haven't collaborated with. They have access to all the best trainers and doctors, renovate and buy houses like it’s nothing, own vacation homes all over the world and celebrate holidays and birthdays with the grandest of gestures and parties.
Last week on Instagram, Khloe Kardashian posted a picture of herself posing next to a blue Rolls-Royce (a car almost every member of the family has) and I thought, although today material wealth and fame are just part of those things the Kardashian-Jenner clan have, and things that often get us into our feels because of how much we sbwl, remember when buying a Bentley was such a huge achievement for Kim that she even got into a fight with her sisters for ruining her moment?
Or the time they all lived together in a one-storey house (which was way above average and still in Calabasas) but smaller than what we see now? Or when Kim had a one-bedroom condo?
One of the biggest lessons we can take from this family is that good things take time and that it's okay to take your time. Ironic when you think of how they became the fastest and biggest reality TV family ever – but it wasn't always like that.
In the part 1 reunion, Kim talks about how she always knew where the paparazzi would be at the beginning of her career and how she would go to places in those hot spots areas just to be photographed in full glam.
"People need to be more honest about those moments in life when you're just super desperate and want that," she said.
KKW has always been honest about her aspiration to fame and worked hard for it. Remember when she took part in events like the boxing match where she was knocked out; or when she danced onstage with the Pussycat Dolls even though we all know dancing has never been her thing, or when she made Fit In Your Jeans By Friday workout home videos?
From being rejected by designers, told by publicists that she will never be on the cover of Cosmopolitan or having her cameo on The Hills (which had stepbrother Brody Jenner) cut, moghel was a true hustler.
Kim only became a household name at 27 and the show we've all come to love was initially meant to replace Lindsay Lohan's for just one season.
In Khloe's book, Strong Looks Better Naked, she speaks of a time in her early 20s when she was in a slump, wasn't sure what she was doing with her life and worked at Smooch with Kourtney to try create a routine for herself — something many of us today can relate to.
Kourtney dabbled in a lot and only truly found her passion with Poosh in her 40s, but since our focus on her has mostly been on her relationships, remember how long it took for her to end her toxic relationship with Scott and start the healthy co-parenting one we see today?
We look at this family today wanting the life they have now but forget all the dues they paid to get to here. It's important for us to remember in our aspirations that it didn't happen overnight and that their slow but fast progression is a page worth reading.
- Part 2 of the KUWTK reunion is on E! Entertainment (DStv 124) on Sunday 27 June at 7.05pm. Watch part 1 and the final season on DStv Catch Up.
